Keira has been with us for a week now, she has settled in very quickly and comfortably!  Keira is very sweet and loves to cuddle with us and our dog Donkie!  She does not show any aggresion towards other dogs and does not have food aggression.  Keira is showing signs of  separation anxiety but we are working very hard to help her, and she has shown improvement even in the first week!  She is not destructive and is house broken.  We love having Keira at our house, she makes us and Donkie very happy.  Keira can't wait to find her forever home and we know she will make you and your family very happy!  Please check back for more info soon!

Meet Kiera!  Kiera is a 1.5 year old White Deaf female that is being surrendered because her current families living situation has changed.  Kiera is coming into the program with her brother Riddick who is also deaf.   Kiera is your typical young boxer girl that is full of wiggles, kisses and energy!  Kiera is a very excited girl when greeting people and will tend to jump on them when she first meets them, however, she calms down pretty quickly.   She currently lives with small children and is good with the kids.  She has some food allergies which are common with the Boxer Breed, so she’ll need to be put on a quality food (see our nutrition section of our site)Kiera has recently started showing some signs of separation anxiety, where if her owner leaves the room and shuts a door, Kiera will claw at the door to get out.  This is also behavior of  some deaf dogs that are not familiar with their surroundings, as they tend to rely on their sight and smell sense that much more;  as Kiera never displayed this behavior in the last place they lived.

Kiera does well with other dogs and is crate trained.  The only basic command she knows is sit, so she will need obedience training and leash walk training ( for simple signs for a deaf dog, please follow this link: Deaf Dogs.

As Kiera is deaf, she would benefit from a canine companion and a fully fenced in yard.  To learn more about deaf dogs, please visit this link: Deaf Dogs

Kiera is a Wonderful little girl!  It has been a very busy 10 days, with adjusting.  My boxer boy Jameson had a tough time because of Kiera being deaf and not understanding. (we are all learning!)  We had a few issues with food the first 3 days, but it is all good now!  Kiera is a little lover, she loves to cuddle and just be with us.  We are so happy to have her in our family!  Thank you boxer rescue, Kelly and Lisa!

Kiera is such a lovely girl!  She is starting to pick up her signs pretty well. She knows go, good dog, and come.  I do the sign "come" to her a little different than the AKC sign, I nudge or move my head in the direction I want her to come ( along with verbally saying come). It seems to work really well for her!  She is starting to slowly put on some weight, yay! Since I have been fostering her she gets 2 cups of food morning and night- this seems to be working well.  Keira is such a sweetheart and is going to make her forever home so happy!!!

Kiera has settled in very nicely.  She and the resident boy Donkie have become fast friends.    I don’t believe Kiera has separation anxiety.   When I put her in her crate to run to the grocery store or out for an errand, she goes in the crate nicely and does not protest, whine or bark.   When I am home, she needs to see me.  If I’m in the shower, she’ll whine if I close the bathroom door so I keep it open for her.  Once she sees I’m in there, she’s fine.   She does not exhibit any other signs of separation anxiety at all.   She’s been great for my boy who used to hate his crate.  Now he doesn’t mind it at all.   I know he loves the company.  Kiera is fully housebroken and has had no accidents since she’s been here.  She has no issues with food or water and is a sweet girl.   She has been good with dogs she has met.  Still haven’t seen any cats on our walks so don’t know how she will act around them. We are working on our hand signals with her as well.    Takes some time but we’ll get there.     Kiera is just a sweet girl and I just love her!
