Bishop

October 7, 2012

Bishop has had a rough 8 years and really needs a home that is willing to dedicate time and training into Bishop, as he has never been given the chance to properly be a "dog".  Bishop is a really sweet, handsome boy who needs someone that is dedicated to help him become the well mannered boy we know he can be.   He has no manners and is very rude.  He also has a problem with incontinence which is a challenge.  He has been evaluated for several different potential medical issues but nothing has been conclusive.   But will we continue to try and find a solution for Bishop and work with his new family.   Bishop  needs someone that is home most of the day to be able to let him in and out to urinate  . He also “leeks” in his sleep most of the time, again, we will work on a solution with his new home.

Bishop loves to go on walks and has gotten much better on the leash.  He will only get along with submissive females.  He does not get along with cats. He is fine with small children in that he will not bite, however, he will grab food from them, so we will not be placing Bishop in a home with Small children.   He shows signs of "guarding" and this will need to be worked on in his new home.   When riding in the car, he needs to be confined to one area (like a station wagon in back with a gate) because he jumps around and steps on everyone.  He cannot be in a crate as he will try to break out and hurt himself doing so.  He will need a home that is willing to work with him on proper crate training.   Bishop also takes things off the counter when left unsupervised  and when stressed,  he drinks water obsessively.  This has gotten better but water needs to be removed after he has had a few drinks.

When someone is home, Bishop is a pretty good boy.  Food is a huge motivator for him and he is very focused on it. During meals, he needs to be put elsewhere.  He needs to be fed separately from other dogs as well as he eats the other animal’s food as well.  Other than at meal times, he only is mischievous when left alone.  However, he will urinate in the house if you are not paying attention to let him out.

With all of that said, Bishop is a fun loving, chipper boy who has so much energy for an 8 year old you would never believe he is 8.  He loves to play and he loves to chase his boxer sister around.  He gets a little rough at times and tries to bite ankles of people to get them to play.  Bishop also is a major snuggle bug. He collapses on your chest in bed and snuggles right in.   He really needs an experienced owner with A LOT of time to devote to him and a family willing to take him to obedience training.
