Kira

October 21, 2012

Keira has been a wonderful addition to our home.  She settled in quite nicely after she arrived.   She is doing well on walks.  Twice we met up with a neighbor with his two dogs, and there was no problem with the dogs or the neighbor.  In the house Keira divides her time equally between my husband and me.  She has her favorite  chair and dog bed on the floor.  She has no interest in the crateShe loves any toy that squeaks!  In such a very short time she has totally fit inKeira is such a love.  Yesterday she was very happy to ride with us in the car to do errands, although there was always one of us in the car at all times.   Keira uses the bells at our back door to let us know when she wants to go out.  She loves to chase her squeeky tennis balls.  She still occasionally plays with/carries the squeaky, furry toys that came with her, but not as much as she did the first day or two.  We are thinking of various socializing occasions in the next few weeks so we can help her get more used to people.  We have not left her alone yet, but will try that out after a few more weeks.  She has walked into the crate three times to check it out, but did not stay or lie down.  We just leave it open for now, and I'd like to think that we might never have to use it.

Meet Kira.  A beautiful 2 year old, brindle  female Boxer.  Kira is being surrendered as her owners do not have enough time to give her and she’s spending too much time in her crate.  Kira was not properly socialized by her first owner and she is very shy and fearful around strangers, but is a love bug once she gets to know you. She lived with a 3 year old child in her prior home that was not nice to her, so as result of that, she spend a lot of time outdoors. We will be looking to place Kira with older children or no children (12+).  She is fine with other dogs and currently lives with a male Boxer that she gets along well with, so we feel Kira would benefit from a canine companion as well.

Kira will need a calm assertive leader to help her with her confidence and to help bring her  out of her shell.   Kira walks well on a leash and is used to a fenced in yard.  Her new family must be willing to bring her to a beginner pet obedience class  to help with bonding and socialization.  Please check back for updates as we secure a foster home for this sweet girl.
