Simba has settled back in so nicley, that we have decided  he needs to be part of our permanent family.  We have fallen in love with, Simba.  We are still working with him as he tends to get pushy when he wants something, but he takes correction beautifully.

Simba has settled right back in with us and his two boxer sisters.  Not one single scuffle.   He loves to play with all the toys in the toy basket but he especially likes to chew on an antler (a wonderful chewing option we got at our local all natural pet store).  He will actually hide it in his crate so the girls can't find it :)  He is learning to sleep on a nice soft dog bed right next to our bed.  He would prefer to be up in the bed, but he is a little pushy about it, so he has to learn not to first and only come up when he is invited.  When he is invited, he loves to snuggle with everyone.  We have been taking him on short leash walks and with the no-pull harness he has been a perfect gentleman.  He was also very happy to meet our neighbors dog.

On the medical side Simba has a few challenges we are working on.  He had a ruptured cyst that is getting much better now that he is on antibiotics and a very sore leg from unknown causes (we believe he suffered some sort of injury prior to coming into the rescue).  For his leg, he is now on pain medication and a joint supplement and they seem to be helping.  We are keeping him quiet though (which is not difficult, considering his favorite pass time is snuggling) to give his leg a chance to heal.

Meet Simba, what a handsome boy!  Simba is coming to us from a shelter where he was surrendered to by his family. The Shelter tells us that once you spend some quality time with Simba, you will find that any assumption you may hold regarding his age is doubtful. They say this handsome boy is playful, sits and downs eagerly on command and reveals the energy of a youngster. An easy companion for an after-dinner stroll, Simba is a true treasure. Simba shows great manners around his dinner bowl, and generously shares all of his toys. Please check back for updates on Simba once we get him settled into a foster home.

Wow what a summer we have had with this amazing dog.  We have hiked and played on the beach and Simba has enjoyed it all.  He also loves to ride in the car.  When he gets excited he will “talk” (not bark) and dance to let you know exactly how excited he is.  He has finally come out of his shell.  He is one of the most loveable boxers I have ever met (and I happen to have some very loveable boxers).  He is following commands beautifully and he is a perfect gentleman on a walk. He has evolved from having to sit and look at us while another dog passed to now being able to walk right by.  His interest in other dogs is not aggression it is excitement but we have worked to reign that in.  We have introduced Simba to many other dogs, male and female, young and old, and we haven’t had any problems.  He is currently living with two other boxers and he is great with them, but I believe that Simba would also be happy being an only dog as he is very people oriented.  He will often quietly follow me from room to room just to be with me.  Simba is an older guy so his perfect home would have teenage children or just adults.  He can sometimes find the high energy of younger children a little overwhelming.

We have been fostering Simba, who is approximately 7 years old, for about three months now.  We also have 2 female boxers ages 3 and 5 and he is wonderful with them.  He has had a few problems when he first meets some male dogs, but the ones he has had the change to get to know he has ultimately been fine with. He knows all of his basic commands and we have been introducing hand signals to go along with them.  He is a very sweet boy and he gives the most wonderful hugs.  He can at times be a bit pushy but he is very easy to verbally redirect.  Simba is not good with small children as younger kids tend to overwhelm him, so we are looking to place him in a home with adults.   He loves to go for walks and is quite a gentleman with a no-pull harness on.  Because  Simba can be a pushy Boxer, we are looking for an experienced forever home that knows how to take control and be a solid leader to Simba.
