The Boxer Rescue

October 25, 2010 - This is Gunner, a very lovable, gorgeous male Brindle Boxer.  Gunner is a very friendly boy who’s owners are surrendering him due to not having enough time for him.  He is a little on the hyper side, and craves attention both typical for a young boxer.  He has displayed some destructive behavior at home but we believe that is probably due to boredom and the long hours he is left alone in the home.

Gunner does not like the crate and will hurt himself trying to get out.  He is currently gated in the kitchen area when his owners are not home, and he has knocked items off the hutch onto the floor, but he does not have accidents or chew the woodwork or furniture.  He also likes to dig holes in the yard, again we believe it is due to his boredom and lack of exercise and stimulation.  Gunner has also escaped the house by jumping through a screen door to run across the street to play with the neighbors dogs.   He is great with other dogs and would benefit from another canine companion to help burn off some of that energy.

While Gunner likes to be with other dogs he also likes to be with his people. Gunner would also do very well with older children as he may knock over smaller children due to his energy level.  He knows his basic commands (sit, down, stay & come) but he needs some basic manner skills, as he is very active and loves to jump on people.  When walking Gunner, he will pull a little at first but will then calm down.

We are looking to place gunner in a home where someone is home more often than not.  He will need a home with a secured fenced-in-yard, as he WILL jump over a lower fence or through a screen door.  Gunner needs a lot of exercise, a home that understands the needs and activity level of a young boxer and his home will need to work with him on social skills and training.
